H-E-B Shopping Carts

Hi Neighbors!

With the new H-E-B coming soon to our community, many of you have voiced concerns that the store’s shopping carts might become a nuisance in our area. We know carts from other stores have been used by residents and homeless populations to transport groceries and personal belongings, then the carts are often left to litter the community.

We are happy to report H-E-B shopping carts will be equipped with Carttronics wheels that lock if a cart leaves the store’s parking lot.

We appreciate H-E-B’s quick response on the issue and look forward to the new store. We also thank Washington Terrace Civic Association President Jason Hyman and our Super Neighborhood President Tomaro Bell for their support on the matter.

There are many critical issues in our community, so we really need your voice. We invite you to attend the next Riverside Civic Association general meeting at 6 pm. Thursday, July 11, at Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 3015 N. MacGregor Way. We will return to the Energy Institute High School, 3501 Southmore, beginning in August.

(The Riverside Civic Association is bounded by N. MacGregor Way, Highway 288, Blodgett and the Columbia Tap Bike Trail.)

Have a great day!

RCA Participates in Clean-Up Day!

Thank you to all of the neighbors, board members and student volunteers who came together today to help us beautify our neighborhood in the heat.

Also, a special thanks to Rachel Cooney-Paxton for coordinating RCA’s involvement in Team-Up 2 Clean-Up 3rd Ward. This was the largest ever organized cleanup in the 3rd Ward area. So awesome.

HEB Update

During June’s community meeting, we asked Council Member Dwight Boykins about the delays for the planned H-E-B on North MacGegor Way and 288. He said because of the stipulations with the land purchase, H-E-B has to wait 12 months before they can begin developing the property. He anticipates the “Coming Soon” sign will go up in the fall.

So, H-E-B is coming slowly, but it’s coming.

Community cleanup on June 30

We’re teaming up with 3rd Ward in Our Home Civic Association for an area-wide cleanup 8 am. to 2 pm. Saturday, June 30. If you would like to volunteer to cleanup, paint street addresses or distributed pet food/supplies to area seniors, please email info@riversidecivicassociation.org.

Also, students who volunteer can receive six hours of community service. Limited supplies will be available.

We’ll start and end at Shape Community Center, 3815 Live Oak.
